How to stop gmail from adding contacts automatically?

I am actually not willing to add all the contacts in my gmail account, however, gmail keeps on adding it automatically. Can anyone help me with the steps of stopping gmail from adding contacts automatically?

Where are they being added to? Is this about permissions in a third party app?

You may have to manage this from the permissions view in the phone settings or on a browser while logged into the gmail account.

Check support.google.com or the product forums because the answer is constantly changing and many answers that I could give you might be outdated.
