Apple and Google both support Wi-Fi hotspot in their mobile platforms. Here's how to turn your iPhone or Android smartphone into a Wi-Fi hot spot:
Activate Wi-Fi from iPhone
Tap Settings> Mobile Data, then click on the slider next to Personal Hotspot to activate it. If your Wi-Fi or Bluetooth is off, your device asks you to turn it on. (You can share your connection via Bluetooth, but Wi-Fi works better.)
Select an arbitrary wireless connection and enter a password when the window appears.
When Wi-Fi hotspot is ready. Go to Wi-Fi settings on your computer, try to connect to available networks. You'll see a Wi-Fi network from your iPhone.
Broadcast Wi-Fi from Android
Some actions will be different depending on the version of Android you are using, however, if you are using Android 5.0 or higher, there is a general rule applied between devices. Tutorials below for Android 7.1 Nougat.
Go to Settings> More> Wireless & networks> Tethering & portable hotspot, touch the Portable Wi-Fi hotspot slider to turn it on.
Once completed, go to Set up Wi-Fi hotspot to view or change the network name, password, even the chanel between 2.4GHz and 5GHz.
Next, click Save to save, make sure your data connection is turned on. Get back to your computer and try connecting to the newly created Wi-Fi hotspot.
Good luck!
