Same here, but my taste for games has developed over time. From platformers, to RPG's, to MOBA's. But platformer games have become rather boring for me. There has to be a good story if you want to make me enjoy a platform game.
For Mario, it's still the same: Bowser kidnaps Peach, Mario travels the world, enters many castles, and the last one is the one where he'll find Bowser, "kill" him, save Peach, and get a kiss.
Problem is, if Mario changes its story, I probably wouldn't like it either, as it wouldn't be Mario's story, unless there's a multiverse theory going on, where all Mario games basically tell the same story, but things happen on another way or are different.
Rick and Morty style.
