iPhone 4 or 4s is cheap iPhone series that you can buy today with low price. If you want the latest models then you can not find ones that cheap.

Is it worth buying an old verison of iphone?

I would always go with the latest version if possible unless you didn't have a good budget then you can choose an old iPhone but make sure that you need to check it carefully before purchasing.
