After a session of using your computer, you shut it down. But sometimes it does not completely shut down because some applications or services of your device are still running in the background. This problem can be caused by both hardware and software and it could also affect your computer's battery life.
In this following guide, I will list some common ways to fix this.
Method 1: Check for active apps
The most common reason is still the application that works on your computer. Please check that you save all your work and close all open applications so that the shutdown process will complete.
Method 2: Turn off Fast Startup to fix failed computer shutdown.
Step 1:
Click the Windows icon on the left side of the computer screen -> select Settings.
Step 2:
Here you select System.
Step 3:
Next, go to Power & sleep -> check the right pane and click on the link Additional power settings.
Step 4:
Click on Choose what the power buttons in the left pane.
Step 5:
Find and select Change settings that are currently unavailable.
Step 6:
Now that the Shutdown settings option is no longer grayed out, proceed to deactivate the Turns on fast startup (recommended) section, then click Save changes to save the changes.
Option 3: Use Command Prompt (Admin) to turn off the computer.
Step 1:
Hit Windows + R -> Enter cmd -> Enter or select OK to open the Command Prompt window.
Step 2:
On the Command Prompt window, copy and paste the following command and press Enter: your machine will automatically shut down:
shutdown / s / f / t 0
Method 4: Disable and reinstall the driver.
Step 1:
First, click on the search icon on the screen-> enter Device Manager -> select Device Manager to open.
Step 2:
Double click on System devices -> right click on Intel (R) Management Engine Interface -> select Disable to temporarily disable Driver-> then try to turn off the computer.
If you still can not then you can reinstall the Driver for the device. It can be downloaded using Windows Updates or by browsing the manufacturer's website and then try again.
These are some easy to follow and effective fixes for this problem. I hope this guide helps! Good luck!
